Many moons ago, I received a first gift of pearl necklace from my husband for our 15-th wedding anniversary. They were saltwater 6 mm pearls bought in Hong Kong. Only when I’ve come home and placed them onto a white letter sheet did I see that they were not of the desired white color but rather darkish creamy. Lesson learned :slightly_frowning:!
This time around, I did my homework: I wanted the best in pearls. Depending on the price, it would be Akoya or better yet the best of AAA Akoya - Hanadama pearls. It is hard to choose pearls online - many people write of disappointment. So, I went to the luxury pearls store in my area. They had no Hanadama. I’ve asked to see a good Akoya that they had. The necklaces I was shown in the Princess length (18”) cost over $6000 from the A1 cathegory, large diameter (I’d say 8- 8.5 mm) … and did not have any special luster! Whom to trust with your dream?
Well, I’ve asked Google about who is reliable in the pearl jewelry - 3 names came out: stores Tiffany, Mikimoto, online pearl boutique “Pure Pearls”. One look at the first 2 prices - and I’ve almost fainted (30K and up). With “Pure Pearls” pricing scheme, I was able to reach next size (7,5-8mm) in a pearl diameter, than was originally planned.
