CELEBRITY PEARL SIGHTINGS - CATE BLANCHETTE'S TAHITIAN PEARL NECKLACE

It's been some time since I last wrote a post updating everyone on the latest celebrity and their love affair with pearls. And boy do I have a doozy of a post for you today!

Actress Cate Blanchett dazzled London and the world when she showed up at the annual BAFTA Award Ceremony at the Royal Albert Hall wearing a bespoke Tahitian Pearl and Tourmaline Necklace created by Louis Vuitton using repurposed Tahitian Pearls and Nigerian Tourmaline. 

 

 

 

The STUNNING confection was a co-creation with Ms. Blanchett and Vuitton's artistic director of watches and jewelry, Ms. Francesca Amfitheatrof.

Blanchett said of the stunning strand: "Seeking out and using and reusing sustainable materials is very important to me, and Francesca and I both know the beauty that can come from engaging in this space. So in conversation, we decided to create a moment to showcase not only her incredible artistry and ingenuity but the craftsmanship at Louis Vuitton,” 

 

 

 

The Four-Strand Tahitian Pearl Necklace consists of 188 metallic Tahitian pearls and a 23.78ct Blue-Green step-cut Nigerian Tourmaline surrounded by sparkling diamond accents. 

... Personally, from the close-up photos of the necklace taken as it was being made makes me wonder if ALL the pearls were Tahitian?? It looks like either smaller White South Sea or Japanese Akoya pearls were also used, but perhaps not mentioned. Just throwing that out there ... 

Both pearls and tourmaline were recycled from other, older Louis Vuitton high jewelry collection pieces. 

 

 

Amfitheatrof, who was in charge of creating this spectacular piece, said “When Cate Blanchett talked to me about designing a repurposed necklace, this mission, for me, was a study in timelessness. I love pearls and sought to create a piece for her made from repurposing them along with other stones and gold, as what way to pay homage to the enduring nature of the world’s most precious materials by their reuse and continual adaptation.” 

 

 

And that brings us to an end for this week's post! I just felt that this particular one of a kind necklace deserved its own stand-alone post just because it was so spectacular!
